Mid-Sussex Mencap
Registered Charity 246001
Welcome to the Mid-Sussex Mencap web site. We provide support to protect the rights, choices and independence of local people with a learning disability and their families.
Our charity is volunteer led and affiliated to National Mencap. The area we cover is the same as Mid-Sussex District Council which includes East Grinstead, Hassocks, Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath and surrounding villages. Please feel free to contact us if you need assistance - we are here to help.
If you would like to become a member and receive our newsletters and other information, the cost is £3 each for a year. Please complete our membership form which you can find on the Membership Form page.

News!
Coronavirus - Because of the Coronavirus outbreak, we have decided to take the following action. -
Both the Burgess Hill and East Grinstead Gateway Clubs will be closed until further notice. All members should have been notified, either by email or letter or phone. Updates will be put onto the Gateway Clubs Facebook Page where there will be information about when the Clubs might be open again.
Our annual Photo and Video Competition will not take place in 2020. Entrants will be notified by letter from Rosie and Chris. There is more information on our Photo Competition page.
Our annual Art Competition also will not take place in 2020.
More information about dealing with Covid can be found at Royal MENCAP's web site - mencap.org.uk
Committee Secretary - We are still looking for someone to become our Secretary. Duties include minuting meetings (about 5 a year plus the AGM); dealing with or passing on correspondence from National MENCAP and others, and looking after our insurances. The Secretary will also need to undergo a DBS check. If you are interested and want to find out more then please ring our Chair, Peter on 01444 471431.
Donations - As you might remember the Society received a legacy in 2010. We set out to use this to make donations to people and orgnisations and we have now given out more than £250,000 in donations. If you have a need for help, or know someone or an organisation that could do with some help then please get in touch with a member of the Committee.
Photo and Film Competition - The 2019 prize giving ceremony was held at our new venue, Clair Hall in Haywards Heath in June. Unfortunately we had to move from using the Martlets Hall in Burgess Hill when it closed down but using Clair Hall seems to have been a success with more parking available and more room for refreshments.
Numbers were up slightly last year (just over 700 photos from nearly 200 people) and from fewer centres. Thanks to all those who came along to see all the photos that had been entered and watch the prize-giving. Light refreshments were again on sale, thanks to Linda's efforts. Congratulations to all who entered and won an award! The winning photos from 2014 to 2019 are on the Winning Photos pages.
Mary Wheeler Art Competition - The prize giving ceremony for the 2019 competition took place on 7th November at Clair Hall in Haywards Heath. Thanks to all the people who came along to enjoy the presentations. This year's entries were a record breaking 203. Again we were well served by our judges Melanie and Mike and Sue from Burgess Hill Artists. We send our sincere thanks to them for volunteering to help out. The winning artwork is on the Winning Artwork 2019 page.
GDPR - You might well have heard about GDPR or had letters or emails from organisations about the data they hold about you. GDPR is intended to make it much more clear what data organisations hold about people, why they hold it and how people can challenge that data.
In response to this legislation, Mid-Sussex MENCAP has created its own GDPR Privacy Policy and this can be found on the GDPR Page.
